Jalepeño Crab Dip with Garlic Croutons

This addictive appetizer combines rich and briny crab with creamy mascarpone, pickled jalapeno, and aged parmesan. Serve with crackers or French bread garlic croutons.

Ingredients
  

Ingredients for the Dip
  • ½ kg lump crabmeat can used high quality canned as well as fresh or frozen
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic very finely chopped or use a microplane
  • ½ cup chopped pickled jalapeños
  • kg Feuerkäse grated butter käse can be used as well
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp hot sauce of choice!
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 60 grams Mascarpone cheese
  • 60 grams Cream Cheese softened
  • 60 grams Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese grated
Ingredients for Garlic Croutons
  • 1 loaf French bread trimmed and cut into about 1-2 cm slices
  • 5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 large peeled garlic clove(s)
  • ½ tsp finishing salt to taste increase as desired
  • black pepper freshly ground

Equipment

  • 1 Medium Size baking pan lightly greased with butter ~ I like to use a pie dish or Cast iron pan

Method
 

Instructions for Crab dip
  1. Preheat oven 10 180℃
    Combine the crabmeat, garlic, pickled jalepeños, grated feuerkäse, Worcestershire, hot sauce, salt, mascarpone and cream cheese in a medium size mixing bowl.
  2. Toss mixture gently to mix
  3. Spoon the mixture into baking dish
  4. Sprinkle grated Parmigiano, covering the crab mixture evenly
  5. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, about 25 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and let sit/set for about 10 minutes before serving.
Instructions for Garlic Croutons
  1. Preheat oven to 200℃
  2. Prepare a sheet pan with a layer of parchment paper
  3. Brush both sides of slices with olive oil and place in spaced layer on the sheet pan
  4. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, flipping the slices at the midway point for even toasting
  5. Remove from oven and rub peeled garlic evenly on one side of each slice of bread--garlic will melt onto the warm toasted pieces
  6. Sprinkle with a bit of finishing salt and freshly ground black pepper as desired
  7. Serve with the crab dip for a perfect taste and texture combination
